As a Lutheran church, we value the opportunity to study and learn from Scripture.  We know that many of our members delve deeply into this study on an individual basis, but we also are grateful for the times we can study together, learn from one another, and encourage each other in faithful ways in a group setting.

Sunday School

Our youth, from age three through high school, engage in active learning in Sunday School classes on Sunday mornings during the school year.   We use a rotational style for some of our classes, giving the students an opportunity to engage the same Bible story lesson in a variety of ways over 3-4 weeks: in a Scripture tent, an art room experience, and a movie room.  The younger grades begin each Sunday School hour with Rally Time singing, and sing in worship on occasion during the year.  We celebrate several milestones in the faith journeys of our youth throughout these Sunday School years as part of our Milestones Ministry program.

Adult Bible Study

On Sunday mornings during the school year, adults are invited to participate in an adult study time, addressing a variety of topics.  Often this study will take a closer look at the lectionary readings for the day, while at other times there will be an opportunity to dig more deeply into a particular theme or topic for a period of weeks.  Anyone is welcome to attend this class during the Sunday School hour.

Women of the congregation may also participate in Bible study through monthly “circle” small group meetings on a day and at a time that is convenient for them.   There is also a monthly Women of the ELCA (W-ELCA) meeting that offers a time for community building, and features an interesting speaker, topic or opportunity for service.   Our quilt making ministry arises out of this organization, and they also provide the support needed for serving funerals and other congregational functions as they occur throughout the year.

Other members of the congregation regularly gather for Bible study in small groups that meet in peoples’ homes.

Confirmation

Students in grades 7-9 are involved in Wednesday evening Confirmation classes during the school year that combine fellowship, Bible and Lutheran doctrine instruction, and service projects.  Students celebrate their Affirmation of Baptism (Confirmation) during the fall of their 10th grade year.
